Ribbons are a symbol of slavery and the mark of a human in the book Animal Farm, as the book says on page 37, "those ribbons...badge of slavery," indicating that ribbons are something that a human uses, and a human alone.
Also, they are like rankings that humans use, so it shouldn't be done by animals, as ribbons are like a form of judging and competition. And so, ribbons are not to be used because Liberty is worth more than ribbons.

Lies are a big theme in Animal Farm. In fact, the farm runs on that. Before all the Napoleon and Squealer business began, the farm was peaceful and calm, with everyone working together, especially in the harvest. "Not an animal...stolen so much as a mouthful."
However, after Snowball's exile, the air was thick with lies. For each time Napoleon or the pigs broke a rule, Squealer was always there to explain. Eventually, the truth is so complicated that no one can even remember what is actually happening, or what is happening
