  • In the first paragraph of "the scarlet ibis," the author describes the place that he lived and described the mood of his surroundings during the season. The way he described things using words such as "empty cradle" and "rotting brown" set a mood or tone for the setting and what paints a picture of a sad and beaten down place 
  • style
  • when doodle dies towards the end of the story the author uses some descriptive language to show his emotion and really shows the reader how he was feeling in that moment, he uses words such as "tear- blurred vision" to show his emotions about his brother and set a sad mood in this part of the story 
  • Theme
  • when the author takes doodle to old woman swamp for the first time he gives a description of a beautiful place with "palmetto fronds" and " soft rubber grass" which allows the reader to picture it and feel the vibes of the story 
  • the style that the author uses to tell the story is a narrative approach, his point of view throughout the whole story is him having a flashback so he is narrarating everything as he remembers 
  • overall the theme of this story is about perseverance, inevitability and pride and is meant to be a sad story. the author shows his regret for pushing his brother because he was prideful and embarrassed of him  because he is disabled
