Hey Dad! Can you tell me what life was like during the war? Im doing this project and would like your perspective!
Sure! Its not gonna be the happiest, but I will help.
I was in Poland when it started. I met your mother and we were very successful. However, I was drafted and sent off to war. I was captured and became a prisoner. I escaped and made it back eventually.
WhenI returned, the Nazis had already invaded. Me and your mother were forced to stay in the ghettos. Eventually, we go into hiding when we find out the Nazis were rounding us up. They catch me and your mother and send us to Auschwitz.
What about mother's diaries? Where are they?
I burned them after she passed.
In the camp, we had to be resourceful. There was little food, little clothing, and little medical care. The Nazis were merciless and abused us every chance they had. If you could not work, you were killed. I kept in touch with your mother when I could, sending messages.
In the end, Art has enough to finish his novel and publishes it. The response from readers is great.
We are finally liberated after the war. Your mother and I are reunited. Your mother commits suicide in 1968.
