"Telemachus. You go out in search of your father and come back with an old beggar?"
I have returned.
ROAD BACK HOME- Alcinous gives Odysseus gifts and a ship. Odysseus sets sail for Ithaca. While he sleeps on the ship, the crew commands the ship. When the ship lands, he is still asleep so the crew carry him onto the shores of Ithaca.
ATONEMENT- Odysseus sees that his kingdom has been overrun by the suitors. He knows he can't just walk into the city, or else he would be murdered on the spot. Athena comes to him with a plan. She disguises him as an old beggar. This allows him to enter the city and it also allows him to see what has become of his city. Odysseus and his son Telemachus come up with a plan to take his city back.
RESOLUTION- The challenge that Penelope set up required the suitors to string Odysseus's bow, and then shoot an arrow through twelve axe handles. The suitors failed to even string the bow, but Odysseus, still disguised as a beggar, took the bow, strung it, and successfully shot an arrow through all twelve axe handles. After doing so, he reveals himself and proceeds to kill all of the suitors.
