  • Theme- Never give up on something that you love.
  • Evidence- “he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish...”(pg. 1 The Old Man and the Sea) Explain- Even though the old man did not catch a fish for a while he did not give up on the thing that he loved the most, fishing.
  • Authors purpose- The authors purpose is the entertain
  • Symbol of the authors purpose-  The fish is the symbol of the authors purpose because Santiago loves fishing and hasn't caught a fish in 84 days.
  • Symbol for the Audience- Manolin would be the symbol for the audience because Manolin supported and cared for Santiago.
