  • Annemarie is stopped by the nazi soldiers, as she is running to give the packet to Uncle Henrik. They are questioning her about why she is running in the woods and what's in her basket. She acts as if she were Kirsti to distract them from what is in her basket.

  • I wish Ellen were here.
  • Uncle Henrik is taking the Rosens to Sweden on his boat. He is brave because he knew the consequences if the Nazis found out. However he still takes them across the ocean to freedom.
  • Friendship
  • Annemarie's father was brave when he stood up to the soldiers. He told them that Ellen was Lise, and luckily when Lise was young she had brown hair. He was brave to have stood up to the Nazis.
  • Friendship
  • After the war when the Johansen's came back to their apartment, Annemarie wore Ellen's Star of David necklace as a symbol of their friendship. Along with that the Johansens cleaned the Rosen's house and hung flags as a symbol of freedom.
  • Uncle Hernrik took the Rosens to Sweden for freedom and hid them in a secrete compartment in the boat. Although he knew he could be caught he still helped them. The way he could sneak them in was hiding them in the deck.
  • The Johansens allow Ellen to stay at their house after the Nazis are relocating Jews. They know the consequences, but still continue to help.
