Mrs.White and their son Herbert are introduced to Sergeant Major Morris by Mr.White. Sergeant Morris talks about his adventures in India when he was in the military.
Sergeant Morris tells the tale of the monkeys paw that he had gotten India. The paw grants three wishes to three men. Sergeant Morris throughs the mummified paw into the fire. Mr.White quickly takes the paw out of the fire and takes it for himself. Sergeant Morris heads home.
Mr. white makes his first wish to pay of the morgtage of the house. Herbert goes to work the next day. And there's a knock at the door long after Herbert's supposed to be home. Mr. and Mrs.White get news that Herbert was caught in a machine at work and died. He was only recognizable by his clothes.
Mrs.White urges Mr.White to make a wish to make their son come back to life. He makes the wish but disagrees with Mrs.White. After Mr.White made the wish there was a knock on the door.Mr.White tells his wife he won't be the same.
Mrs. White goes downstairs to let it in while Mr. White stays upstairs, afraid and frantic about what is about to be let into the house. Just as Mrs. White is unlocking the door, Mr. White pounces on the Monkey paw.
Mr. White wishes on his last wish that what was ever at the door would disappear. Mrs.White opens the door and wails with misery. Mr. White rushes downstairs to his wife’s side and then out to the gate beyond. The street is quiet and deserted.
