Problem/Solution and Cause/Effect of Diversity in the Arts Articles
Problem: Not Enough Diversity in the Arts
Show some creativity, people!
Those guys again??
Solution: Create More Diverse Films
Result of Solution
I'm so glad I paid to see this!
Wow! This movie is so diverse!
In many movies and TV shows, there is not enough diversity. Many characters are white men, so there is not enough representation of people of color and different genders. Some people are angered by this, and it is definitely a problem.
Cause: Not Enough Diversity in the Arts
I'd like to thank the Academy...
A solution to this problem would be to create more diverse films. This solution has many benefits. For example, it would make people feel happier to see their race or gender portrayed in a movie or TV show. Another benefit of creating more diverse movies is that those types of movies make more money, because again, people want to see more diverse movies.
Effect: People Are Angry
As a result, people will be happier and the movie will make more money.
Effect: People Are Sad
Again, there is not enough diversity in the arts. Although this year's Oscars were better, previous year's Oscars were not as diverse, and even this year, still more needs to be done. For example, in a study about over 1,100 popular films from the last 10 years, women made up only 30% of roles. Less than 30% of roles were people of color, people with disabilities, and people who are LGBT+
They don't look like us!
The lack of diversity causes many people to be angry. For example, April Reign created the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite. She was upset that in the 2017 Oscars, there were no Latino/Latina, Asian, Pacific Islander, etc nominees. In the same year, several important people refused to attend the Oscars. Comedian Chris Rock hosted, and he opened the Oscars by welcoming people to the "White People's Choice Awards."
So annoyed at this year's Oscars! #OscarsSoWhite
@littlelulu_xoxo: Exactly!! I'm so mad 😡😡😡
People could also be sad because of not enough representation.
None of them look like me! How can I ever pursue a dream?
