  • 95 Theses
  • Once upon a time lived a German man named Martin Luther, born on the 10th of November, 1483 in Saxony. He was an educated scholar and spiritual man. One day Luther got stuck in a lighting storm and prayed to Saint Anne to save him, if saved he vowed he would become a monk. He believed this was a sign from god and went on to also become a theologian.
  • Conflict
  • I do not agree with the beliefs and values of the church
  • Now in the monastery life Luther traveled to Rome and witnessed the corruption within the church. When returning to Germany, Luther didn't like the power and practices of selling indulgences within the church as a "Free ticket to heaven". He believed they were selling the salvation of the people.
  • Climax
  • How dare you question the church and my faith
  • To Reflect Luther worries, on October 31th, 1517 Luther posted 95 thesis on the door of a Wittenburg church because he disagreed with the ways of the church and what they were doing with the faith of the people. This rapidly spread through out Europe and caused conflict within the church. This period was later known as the start of the Protestant Reformation.
  • Resolution
  • Peace
  • The Pope didn't agree with Luther's 95 thesis, so he wrote a letter to Luther on why the 95 theses were wrong. Consequently on the 3rd of January, 1521 Luther was excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church. Luther refused and did not agree with what the church believed therefore Luther burnt the letter publicly. As a result he was challenged to the diet of worms.
  • On April 17th,1521 Luther was challenged to the diet of worms by Emperor Charles V and was called upon to face the emperor to defend his beliefs and respond to the charge of heresy. Refusing to withdraw his position, Luther was declared an outlaw and heretic. Luther was then protected by powerful German princes, until his death in 1546.
  • I refuse to change my opinions
  • Unfortunately Luther died before the Protestant Reformation ended in 1648. But without brave people like Luther to step in when the church is corrupt, it wouldn't be the place it is today. The Reformation caused the branching out of different streams of Christianity and the acceptations to new beliefs.
