  • 1948 - President Truman Orders Integration of Armed Forces 
  • 1955 - Montgomery Bus Boycott begins 
  • you have to move get off ! you don't belong here 
  • I have a right to sit here !
  • 1957 - Integration of Little Rock High School in                                               Arkansas 
  • Only Whites !!! We Don't want "Negros" here !
  • President Truman issued executive orders to desegregate the armed forces and end discrimination  hiring practices in the federal government. These orders set precedents for later Civil Rights legislation.
  • 1960 -  Freedom Rides / Lunch counter Sit-ins 
  • we are NOT moving 
  • Rosa Parks refused to surrender her bus seat yo a white passenger in Montgomery Alabama. she was arrested .This started a boycott that lasted 13 months . Martin Luther King Was in charge of the Boycott .
  • 1963 - March on Washington 
  • Nine african American students tried to go to a all White high school.Many people didn't want them there . They had to be surrounded by guards for there protection
  • 1965   - Voting Rights Act of 1965
  • This day has finally came .A chance to Finally vote  !!! 
  • African  Americans would sit in at all white restaurants as a result of these  protests , downtown stores finally agreed to desegregate lunch counters  and hire african american  workers.
  • Dr.King  and other civil rights leaders organized a March on Washington to pressure Congress to pass new civil rights bill before congress . 
  • The voting rights act ended poll taxes.  suspended literacy tests where they were used to prevent African americans from voting. This  act made it easier for African Americans to vote .
