  • An example of bravery in Number the Stars is when Anniemarie holds Ellen's necklace in the palm of her hand when the soldiers came to her house. When they leave there is a mark of the star left on her hand. This is bravery because if the soldiers saw it they could have gotten caught.
  • Friendship
  • Another example of bravery was at Aunt Birte 's funeral when the soldier asked why the casket was closed. Mama lied and told him Aunt Birte died of typhus and that the doctors told them to keep it closed because there might be a chance they could get it if it was open. Then she said they might as well open it and the soldier slapped her.
  • Friendship
  • One more example of bravery was when Annemarie was running through the woods with the packet. Annemarie is carrying a basket that has the packet with a napkin on top,an apple, and a loaf of bread. While she was running through the woods she was telling herself the story "Little Red Riding Hood."
