Moana lives on the island of Motunui with her village. She has lived there all her life, training to become the next great chief. She was raised by her mother, father and grandmother. She has always had a strange bond with the ocean.
Moana is driven to go on the adventure when there are no longer fish to be caught or coconuts to be harvested on her island. She believes that her people will starve if she doesn’t do something. To do this, she must go out in the ocean and cross the reef, breaking her father’s only rule.
Unfortunately, Moana’s grandmother becomes very weak. They discover that she is dying and Moana is worried. Moana refuses to leave because she cannot leave her grandmother in these times. Her grandmother had always been there for her, so Moana felt that she should return the favour.
