France spent too much money on wars. They also collected too little in taxes. The nobility pay nothing for taxes, but the peseants have to pay more. The food price was also high, but the pay was lower.
King sides with Nobles
The common people started to walk out of the meeting, because of the rules. The rules made the common people a seperate group from nobilty and clergy.
The common people thought that everyone was born equal, and should have every right. They then swore on the Oath of the Tennis Court, which promised to write a constitution for France.
People in the National Assembly was hoping that the king would go one their side, but the clergy and the nobles told him that they want him not to be king. He sided with the nobles and then sent 18,000 soldiers to Versailles.
People in Paris heard about the news about the National Assembly. They started making strikes about the working conditions and the price of bread.
On July 14, people started to arm themselves and started going towards a prison. There, they killed the governor, soldiers, and other officials there. That was the start of the French Revolution.
