  • In the courthouse scene the whites and blacks are separated in their seating. This supports my theme, which is racial inequality because it represents the separation between the races and how it was normal . The whites had closer seats which are closer and they get to see the action much closer. The fact that they could be integrated with the seating is a perfect example of racial inequality. (219-220)
  • On page 158 in the church Lula says to Calpurnia,"You ain't got no business bringin' white chillun here they got their church, we got our'n. It is our church, ain't it, Miss Cal?" Lula saying this shows that she has been impacted by the racial segregation because she returns the hate towards Jem and Scout. his shows that not all of the African-American community in Maycomb loved the idea of treating Jem and Scout with hospitality and love just because they were white.
  • Tom Robinson right from the start had an unfair trial. The whole town was biased towards because he was a negro and they had painted a picture in their minds about him without knowing him, In the courthouse Mr. Ewell referred to him as 'boy' and the n word he spoke about like he was dirt and not much. 228-233
