Storyboard Text

  • Post WWII, in order to limit Germany's power as much as possible, the victorious Allies had divided Germany into four different pieces. Each piece of territory was belong to one of the Allies, included Britain, French, the U.S. (West Germany), and the Soviet Union (East Germany) 
  • Due to difference in ideology: communism versus capitalism, the Soviet Union and the United States had been expressing distrust toward each other. 
  • Since Stalin, the General of the Soviet Union, never wanted to provide free democratic election as Truman's will, the conflict had become more intense. 
  • The intensity increased, resulted the "Iron Curtain", which implied the separation between two sides of Europe: the west (capitalism) and the east (communism).  
  • The Berlin Blockade
  • Even though Stalin had completely in charged of East Germany  and turned it into a communist country, the west side of Berlin still maintained democratic. Stalin was upset. 
  • June 1948, new currency in Germany made Stalin feared that the Allied was trying to take over all Germany. 
  • Isolated West Berlin by sealing all borders between East Berlin and West Germany. 
  • The Berlin Blockade
  • All kinds of transportations were banned to access to West Berlin (highway, rail, and canal) led to hungers and lack of daily needs, such as medications, fuels, etc.
