Miss Burningham desperately wanted her kids to spend more time writing and reading creative writing. She knew that students who learn to love writing at a young age are more successful academically AND professionally. But there were so many other objectives to meet. How could she teach creative writing too?
Her students were so smart but a lot of them had forgotten how to use their creativity in writing, and most of them also hated it. However, Miss Burningham knew that they would be successful writers in no time, if she could just find a way to make it all fit! To start, she decided to integrate math and science with poetry.
We don't want to write!
The students got to write their own word problem stories for their peers and Miss Burningham to solve! The goal was to make a story so difficult that not even Miss Burningham could solve it! Every student loved the lesson and got to learn critical math skills as well as creative thinking.
