  • Lets take a look at what our extra organs do for us!
  • These organs are apart of the Accessory Canal, which are extra organs but help a lot in the digestion process.
  • The liver takes in nutrients and releases bile. The gallbladder holds and builds up bile so that it can be used later. The pancreas makes and releases pancreatic juices. Then there are 3 salivary glands, and they help the digestive system by making saliva and salivary amylase.
  • These are the main organs that our bodies use during digestion!
  • First the food goes in your mouth and is masticated to be able to go down the throat into your stomach. There the stomach turns your food into chyme. After your stomach, the food is broken down even more as it travels down the small and large intestine where the nutrients are taken in, and eventually you poop it out! There are 3 parts to the small intestine including the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. Then the many parts that make up the large intestine are the cecum, ascending, transverse, descending, and sigmoid colon.
  • Bile: Yellow / Green fluid made by the liver that helps digest fats Cecum, & The Ascending, Transverse, Descending, & Sigmoid Colon: The parts of the large intestine and their job is to return water back to the body, leaving waste to go out the anus. Chyme: Almost fluid mass of partially digested mass in the stomach Diarrhea: Feces coming out in a liquid form and more frequently Duodenum, Jejunum, & Ileum: The parts of the small intestine that is between the stomach and large intestine, where most absorption and digestion takes place Mastication: Chewing and breaking down of food in the mouth Pancreatic Juices: Released from the pancreas, these juices continue to break down food Salivary Amylase: The start of starch turning into sugars in saliva so that digestion can start
  • Glossary
  • With all this being said, the doctor told Joe there was nothing to be worried about and that nothing serious had happened.
  • Joe did the right thing by seeing his doctor since he didn't know what the problem was. Now the only way to fix what he was going through was to take medicine or use the bathroom after he ate dairy.
