  • Sighet, Transylvania was a small town where Elie and his family originally reside. Elie finds interest in studying and finding more about the Jewish religion although his father does not approve and suggest that he study basic subjects. So he finds a friend that can guide him in learning the religion his name is Moishe the Beadle. Eventually Moishe is taken away because he just came back to warn the Jews about what is about to happen.
  • Climax
  • Finding the Moishe the Beadle Elie was able to learn what he was most interested in. But as he gets closer to Moishe he quickly discovers that Moishe is a foreigner and he only came back to warn the Jews about the danger ahead. After Moishe tells Elie about his mission he doesn't refer much to faith and God.
  • Falling Action
  • The war started to get closer to his town. The people of Elie's town were full of fear when they heard the terrible things that were happening to other Jews. The German soldiers came to Sighet to make their towns into ghettos. Life hasn't changed yet until they move into the concentration camps.
  • Resolution
  • The Weisel family arrives at Birkenau. This is where the men and the women get split up so Elie separates with his mom and his two sisters and goes along with his dad. After this concentration camp Elie travels to different camps for different jobs. Buna was very harsh for Elie because that where he started to loose his faith completely.
  • Elie needs to go to the hospital and get his foot operated on because it was restricting him from working. After he was operated on he goes and marches like nothing has ever happened because he is scared if he goes back to the camp to rest he will get killed. So Elie had to march in the snow.
  • Elie's father passed away in the middle of the night because when Elie woke up he was gone. Elie feels a mix of emotions because he wasn't able to help his beloved father. His father was weak for days now but he stuck along as long as he could because of his faith. Elie was so weak he could not even cry for his father's death.
