Storyboard Text

  • Fortunado! Come and test a wine told to be Amontillado!
  • As you are engaged, I am on my way to Luchresi. If any one has a critical turn, it is he.
  • Reverse psychology
  • I'll go! You don't need Luchresi!
  • We will go back; your health is precious. You re rich, respected, admired, beloved; you are happy, as once I was.
  • Enough, the cough is a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I shall not die of a cough.
  • We will go back; you will be ill, and I cannot be responsible. Beside, there is Luchresi.
  • Verbal irony
  • You are not of the masons
  • You? Impossible! A mason?
  • Yes, yes, yes, yes.
  • I am a mason! I have a trowel!
  • Montresor is trying to trick Fortunado to follow him so he can end with his life. He is taking advantage that Fortunado is drunk and he is using reverse psychology to, indirectly, convince Fortunado to help him test the wine told to be Amontillado.
  • Proceed
  • herein is the Amontillado. As for Luchresi.
  • He is an ignoramus
  • Montresor is still using reverse psychology and verbal irony to make Fortunado think he cares about his life, but Montresor is really guiding Fortunado to his death.  He also talks about the code of arms of his family and his legacy; No one harms me unpunished. When Montresor talks about Fortunado's characteristics, he is giving the reader a clue of why he wants to kill him.
  • Fortunato,
  • Put your hand against the wall. You must feel how the water runs over it.
  • Fortunado is part of a brotherhood and he could not believe that Montresor was also part of it. Being a mason has to meanings; being part of a secret society or being a brick layer/house builders. Montresor is talking about the brick layer and Fortunado is part of a secret society. Having a trowel gives the story a creepy tone because it foreshadows that something bad is going to happen.
  • Fortunato! Fortunato!
  • Montressor is still using reverse psychology to make Fortunato get into the catacombs and make him think that Luchresi knows more about wine than him. Montressor is giving more and more wine to keep him drunk, so he doesn't remember anything.
  • reverse psychology
  •  Montressor is tricking Fortunato by saying to do something when he is going to put chains in his hand. Fortunato closed the lock and chained him tightly to the wall.
  • Montressor calls Fortunato's name aloud but he doesn't answer. He throws a torch into the wall of bricks to see if Fortunato answered but he notices Fortunato is dead. He places the last brick to complete his labor.
