  • Money from taxes will, get us more Luxury.
  • France had been using the same government since the Middle Ages. They did not earn much from taxes. They had just spent on the French and Indian war, as well as the American Revolution
  • The Estates General Meeting
  • Majority wins, most of the taxes would be paid by the peasants!!!
  • That is not fair!
  • Before the revolution the French people were divided into 3 estates. The 1st estate consisted of the clergy, the second estate of the nobility and the third estate of the bourgeoisie, urban workers, and peasants. The first two estates enjoyed exemption from most taxation.
  • The National Assembly
  • We are the National Assembly!!!
  • Louis XVI was the King at the start of the French Revolution. He was more interested in his hobbies, than actually ruling. he symbolised the epitome of why absolutism was a terrible idea as a system of government. And his wife, Marie Antoinette, influenced his decisions.
  • The Storming of Bastille
  • The Estates General was a meeting called by King Louis XVI because France was going through an economic crisis. And there was a member to represent each estate. Even though the Third Estate was vastly larger than, the clergy and nobility. Their vote was overridden by both estates.
  • The third Estate were very angry that their votes were overridden by the first two estates . So they swore the Oath of the Tennis Court, which made them promise to write a New constitution for France. They decided to call themselves the National Assembly
  • The peasants started a revolt, by the storming of Bastille. They burnt down a state prison called Bastille and freed all the prisoners in it.
