  • Katniss Everdeen lives in a country that is divided into twelve districts. Katniss lives in the poorest of the districts, District Twelve, the Seam, with her damaged mother and younger sister, Primrose.
  • Falling Action
  • "Remember, we're madly in love, so it‘s all right to kiss me anytime you feel like it" (253).
  • During the Reaping, where the next Hunger Games participants are chosen. Primrose was chosen. To protect her sister, Katniss volunteered so Prim wouldn't have to fight in the games.
  • Resolution
  • Katniss and Peeta, the male who was chosen along with Katniss to fight in the Hunger Games, enter the horrible Hunger Games after a short visit in the Capitol where they trained to fight and win in the games.
  • "Ladies and gentlemen, let the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games begin!" (147).
  • In order to keep the viewers and gamers interested and have a lot of public attention, Peeta and Katniss must pretend to be a couple, but eventually they don't have to fake it because they develop feelings for each other. 
  • When Katniss and Peeta were the last people remaining, they realized that only one person can survive. Since both couldn't live without each other, they decided that neither can win and were about to eat poisonous berries so they wouldn't have to chose, but were stopped by the game makers who chose both to win the 74th Hunger Games.
  • ''Stop! Stop! Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to present the victors of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark! I give you- the tributes of District Twelve!" (345).
