  • Hi, my name is Malone. I'm going to be talking to you about Tungsten. Tungsten is a rare metal on the periodic table.
  • Here are some characteristics of Tungsten.
  • Atomic number: 74
  •
  • Boiling point: 5828 K
  •
  • Phase at room temperature: Solid
  • Density: 19.3 grams per cubic centimeter.
  • Element classification: Metal
  • I am Juan Jose and this is Fausto Elhuyar. We discovered Tungsten in Spain in the year 1783.
  • Today, tungsten is primarily obtained from wolframite and scheelite (CaWO4) using the same basic method developed by José and Elhuyar.
  • Tungsten is alloyed with steel to form tough metals that are stable at high temperatures. Tungsten-steel alloys are used to make such things as high speed cutting tools and rocket engine nozzles.
  • Tungsten can be fashionable too. It is a popular element used in rings. Tungsten is also very strong, so it is used in tips of drill bits and mining machinery.
