Storyboard Text

  • There are two types of democracy: 'direct democracy' and 'representative democracy'.
  • True! But the general idea is that you can vote - a system that people can vote secretly and these votes are counted to choose the ruler.
  • A direct democracy is when the eligible (permitted, allowed) people made decisions on laws.
  • This system was used in the Ancient Greece, in Athens; where we are now!
  • In fact, the original word was demokratia, which literally meant 'power of the people'.
  • The Athens is also were democracy came from!
  • The other version of democracy is representative democracy.
  • In this democracy everybody can vote for a representative, typically chosen because of their party.
  • Then where is this system used?
  • Here! In the USA!
  • Aha! So like Donald Trump is nowadays?
  • Exactly! But he can only stay for 4 years and be reelected only once.
