Christmas is here and this heat is killing my brother Tamati and I. My family are headed to the beach so we pack cold drinks and sausages along with some other meat for a bbq.
We're on our way to the beach and this heat is killing me. I roll the window down and let the breeze run through my hair. We slowly make it to the beach eventually only to be stuck in the carpark with no spots left. A car leaves and we rush into the spot.
Tamati and I run off into the chilly waves automatically cooled down. My dad started up a bbq and my mum walked down to the takeaways to grab some fish & chips my favorite. The beach was packed from the parking lot into the water.
The sun is now setting and it was by far one of my favorite Christmas. Just my Parents, Tamati and I, all you need on a special day like this is family and it's perfect. We plan on sitting by a bonfire eating smores tonight and it honestly couldn't get any better.
Rubbing my hands together to get warm since it is getting quite cold my parents tell stories from when they were younger and we can't help but all laugh like a bunch of hyenas. We've finished eating smores and i'm stuffed. The sunset has now set and we're all thinking its been great but now we gotta head back home. Like they say great things must come to an end.
I am woken the next day by the light coming through my bedroom window. I can't help but plaster a smile across my face reminiscing about last night's fun. I love my family, Christmas and most of all getting to spending it in my beautiful homeland Aotearoa.
