The Patriarchs are male leaders of a tribal group and they were responsible for the survival of their people. They are the original ancestors of the Jewish faith who were chosen by God. The Jewish Patriarch's were Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
The Israelites took about 40 years of wandering in the desert before they reached the region of Canaan. After Moses died, a leader named Joshua took over and brought them into Canaan. When they got to the promised land they confronted a new enemy The Philistines.
The Israelites wanted their own king. Saul became their new king. He fought along side the Israelites. During his role as king the 12 Tribes of Israel became divided. Ten tribes went north they were known as Israel and two tribes who went south they were known as Judah.
The Greek empire was ruled by Alexander The Great. He led the Greek armies to victory. The Jewish Independence lasted for about 100 years before the Romans took control of the land. Before the Independence was fully granted by the Greeks, the Jewish family would eventually assume leadership. One member accepted the gift of high Priesthood.
The Roman Empire was able to build a powerful empire because once they conquered a piece of land, they would carefully select leaders from the conquered people themselves to rule on behalf of the Romans. It is like the Roman Empire was a puppeteer and the selected leaders were their little puppets.
Jesus's lifestyle was different from today. They didn't have that much transportation. The weather was very hot (23 degrees). Water was very precious to them because they lived in a desert. Their agriculture was good, they had grown lots of wheat which they turned into bread and they made wine. They didn't have that many jobs the most popular ones were farming and fishing.
