  • BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER AWARENESS
  • I'm doing quite fine too. I'm actually on my way to do a presentation on personality disorders.
  • Hi! It is so nice to meet you here. How have you been?
  • Yeah! I have not seen you in quite a while. I am doing fine, thanks. How are you?
  • Oh interesting! What is personality disorder?
  • According to DSM-5,  "Personality Disorder is an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the individual's culture, is pervasive and inflexible, has an onset in adolescence or early adulthood, is stable over time, and leads to distress or impairment (DSM-V, 2013, p. 644)."
  • That is really interesting. Thanks for explaining it to me. Could you explain to me some of the personality disorders please.
  • Sure! There are six personality disorders proposed for retention in DSM-5. Antisocial personality disorder is a pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others. Avoidant personality disorder is a pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, and hypersensitivity to negative evaluation. Borderline personality disorder is a pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects, and marked impulsivity.
  • Ok. That is three of them. Which are the others?
  • Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder is a pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and control. Schizotypal personality disorder is a pattern of acute discomfort in close relationships, cognitive or perceptual distortions, and eccentricities of behavior. Narcissistic personality disorder is a pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy.
  • Thank you so much for all the information. I definitely learned a lot from you today. I'm going to head home now. My husband must be waiting for me. Good luck on your presentation.
