  • Jefferson asked Louis and Clark to explore the new land.
  • When the expidition happended
  • It happened during the French Revolution, Napoleon was afraid that his land would be conquered by the French. So he sold the land to America in 1803.
  • The difficult hardships
  • Why it happened: Because the French were revolting against their king. So Napoleon sold the land to us and Jefferson bought it.
  • What they found
  • The expedition itself started on May 14, 1804 and ended September 24, 1806.
  • Lewis and Clark faced crossing rivers, lakes mountains and other rough terrain on foot and horseback. They also struggled to make friends with the Native americans 
  • Lewis and Clark found encountered included pronghorn antelopes, bighorn sheep, black tailed deer (or mule deer), mountain beaver, white weasel, mountain goat, coyote and various species of rabbit, squirrel, fox and wolf
