The inventor of vucanized rubber. Charles Goodyear was born in New Haven, Conecticut, 1800. After 10 years of work,amidst all the disadvantages of povetyand deprivation, he produced his new metod of hardening gum of sulfur in 1844.
The story begins when Charles Goodyear's fascination with rubber became the challenge of his life. He would find a way to make rubber useful. In the next 5 years, Goodyear dedicatednitself to experimenting with rubber, both in its own kitchen and in other workshops
His discovery happening around 1839 when by accident, he dumped a container of sulfur and rubber on top of stove that was lit.
When he examined the fragments he found that the rubber had lost its stickiness and at the same time its fluidity, the plastic and tenacious material had become a solid material, had been transformed in gum.
Goodyear was fighting for more than 5 years in the same misery, before being able to patent his invention in 1844.
Rubbert has beenused as clothing material since 1823 and currently, due to its elasticity, resistance and repellency, it is used in tires,rided llantas of all kinds, waterproof articles, safety suits and insulators, among many other things.
