Storyboard Text

  • Every year, students from grades 3-8 and 10-11 are give annual state tests that are required for graduation.
  • School
  • And around this time, students really start to feel the pressure.
  • These tests cause stress and confusion on children, especially at a young age. And a student's total score can be affected simply by their emotions and needs necessary for concentration.
  • I had a fight with my friend this morning...
  • I didn't get enough sleep last night...
  • I didn't have enough time to eat breakfast this morning...
  • These tests claim to measure student progress, yet the results come months later and give little information to future teachers about what students need to work on.
  • Each and every person has their own strengths and weaknesses.
  • But these standardized tests only measure student progress based on a few subjects. These subjects can be a student's weakness. Giving them a low score will teach them to believe that they are stupid.
  • I failed the SBAC....
  • I really am stupid, aren't I?...
  • So at the very least, we should just reduce the requirements of these standardized tests and spread out the variety of requirements to fit each child's strengths.
