  • This is after Mr. Pontellier got home after having a few drinks and starts questioning Edna's mother senses. She leaves the room and goues to the porch, where she starts crying with out knowing why.
  • I do not fit in here.
  • How few of us ever emerge from such beginning! How many souls perish its tumult!
  • Edna learns to swim. In the book said: "She recognize her relations as an individual to the world within and about her". 
  • Mr. Pontellier is telling Edna to come inside to sleep but Edna refuses and decides to staid out side. With this she is letting him now that she will do what she wants to do.
  • Edna, dear are you not coming in soon?
  • No, I am going to stay out here.
  • I feel independent in my Pigeon House. Now one has to pay for me.
  • Edna moves out and moves in to the Pigeon House where she was by her self. 
  • Robert tells Edna why he left to Mexico. He ask her to married him but she does not want to because she wants to be free. She tells him that she is not some property that can be past to someone .
  • Your wife! You have been a very, very foolish boy. wasting you time dreaming of impossible things. I am no longer one of Mr. Pontellier's possessions to dispose of or not.
  • I forgot everything but a wild dream of your some way becoming your wife.
  • Mr. Pontellier... Etienne ... Raoul ...
  • Edna drown and dies.
