Great Britain started a policy of impressment in which, they kidnapped american soldiers and forced them to serve on British ships.

Republican-Democratic congressmen from the south and west that aggressively advocated the President to declare war against Britain.
CONSEQUENCE:ECONOMIC
In August of 1814 British soldiers invaded Washington DC. They set on fire many buildings including the white house (Presidents mansion). Dolly Madison was luckily able to save important historical documents. This was considered a low point in the war.
CONSEQUENCE:SOCIAL"ERA OF GOOD FEELINGS"
After 2 years of war, Britain decided that it wasn't worth their resources to keep fighting. On December 25, 1814 the Treaty Of Ghent officially ended the war. the treaty showed that there was no clear winner in the war, no territory exchanged hands, and and trading disputes weren't settled yet.
The war spurred economic growth in America and moved it to an industrial economy.
This occurred as Americans experienced a time in which they felt nationalism and unity.
