  • Run, People, Run!
  • Madeline Dubois is eating lunch in NYU Student Cafe when she hears a dangerous sounding noise.

  • Maddy runs outside and sees a plummeting plane. She estimates that the plane is 300 ft up and 125 ft away from her. She uses tan-1(300 / 125) to calculate the angle she needs to fly to get to the plane the fastest. She finds it to be 67.3˚.
  • Woah!
  • She catches the plane and goes down to the ground to let the passengers escape. Maddy realizes it's too late to save the plane, and the plane is about to expode!

  • She estimates that the blast radius will be under 500 ft, but the plane is so heavy she can only fly at a 45˚ angle. She uses the equation sin45˚= 500/x to calculate how far she should travel to avoid collateral damage. She finds it to be 707.1 ft.

  • The blast knock her back at an 80˚ angle
  • She uses tan80˚= x/500 to find how far she has to walk to get back to the NYU Student Cafe. 2,835.6 ft ! Good thing Maddy wore walking shoes today. It's the price to pay for being a superhero and saving the day! (THE END)
