Storyboard Text

  • Scene 1
  • ...
  • I bet you can't clear a 6'6'' high jump competition!
  • Scene 2
  • (watching on the stands)
  • I can do it...
  • Scene 3
  • First competition
  • wow...
  • This scene displays how Carlos is talking down on Thomas saying that he can't high jump clear a 6'6'' high jump competition.  According to the text in "Sports Gene" Thomas was only sitting in the cafeteria until this one student named Carlos Mattis bet him that he can't high jump. So then Thomas decided to stay quiet and prove Carlos wrong (Epstein 5).
  • Scene 4
  • In Thomas's first jump only came in sneakers to Lindenwood field to show Carlos wrong. Then Thomas just cleared the 6'6'' jump so easily because in paragraph 2 of "The Sports Gene" it says that Thomas hardly arched his back and his legs flailed in the air like the streamers trailing a kite. So then he was rushed to the coach put in a late entry because she saw how good he was (Epstein 5).
  • Scene 5
  • When Thomas had went to his first competition in the common wealth of games in Australia, he placed fourth in a "world class field". This shows that in the future he can be placed higher when high jumping in other competitions. So then 8 months later after his first competition he had went to Osaka for the world championships (Epstien 6)
  • As Thomas advanced easily to  the fields for the Reigning Olympic Championships Thomas had apparently been in the spot light because he had gotten to the top so easily. Stephan Holm had also been in high jump finals and during the finals Thomas had made 7'3'' and going higher each attempt. But in the end Holm had jumped higher with a 7'8.5'' just about Thomas's 3rd attempt 7'7.73'' (Epstein 6)
  • As to why Thomas had been jumping so high, Researchers wanted to find out why he was jumping so high. Apparently they had found that Thomas had Achilles tendons which longer and stiffer than the average Achilles tendons (Epstein 7).
