Storyboard Text

  • "Pursue him, ho! Go after" (II.i.44).
  • Edmund convinces Edgar to flee the house immediately since Gloucester has discovered his hiding place and Cornwall is angry at him.
  • Edmund cuts his arm with his sword and tells Gloucester, Edgar wanted him to join in a plan against Gloucester so Edgar tried killing him for refusing.
  • "You come with letters against the/ King, and take vanity the puppet's part against the/ royalty of her father"(II.ii.32-33).
  • The unhappy Gloucester praises Edmund and vows to pursue Edgar, sending men out to search for him.
  • Cornwall and Regan arrive at Gloucester’s house and Regan asks him for advice in answering the letters from Lear and Generil.
  • Outiside Gloucester's house, Kent draws his sword and attacks Oswald for mistreating the king and Oswald acts like he does not know Kent.
  • Cornwall orders Kent to be punished in the stocks for attacking Oswald. However, Gloucester believes that this humiliating punishment of Lear’s messenge is disrespectful.
