But I did the same thing. Why is everyone being so respectful to her?
Don't worry about it.
Again, I'm really sorry Claudette. We can't have a pregnant woman in our test case.
Claudette continued her education but was continuously met with insults about what she had done. She kept her head up high and ignored them. Her Reverand, Reverand Skies, reached out to her to tell her that he was proud of her actions.
Great, it's settled.
9 months went by before another case like this occurred. Rosa Parks had refused to give up her seat to a white person. However, instead of the negative feedback people thought that she was brave. Claudette was a little upset about the attention that Parks was getting because she had done the same thing.
I think we have a case.
Claudette adopted Fred Gray, a lawyer that would help her case advance to the Supreme Court. She had three charges on her record. But because 2/3 charges were dropped they couldn't make a strong enough case. Fred Gray decided not to use her case as the test case.
I hope we win.
She was charged with assault of a police officer, disrupting the peace, and breaking the segregation law. Because the charge for the segregation law was dropped, she could not advance only her case.
However, after Claudette three young ladies by the names of Aurelia Browder, Susie McDonald and Mary Louise Smith all broke the segregation law. Fred Gray could take the three ladies, adding Claudette, and make a case.
The other ladies were charged with breaking the segregation law. And although Claudette was not she was a key plaintiff in the named Browder v. Gayle case. Everyone hoped that the best would come from this case.
