Storyboard Text

  • Photographs of men and women in wagons drawn by mule teams and oxen, dressed in black, dusty clothing, people who seemed almost without individuality (pg39)
  • How could anyones's fate be pleasant? I had always thought of it as something painful (pg40)
  • He had tried to turn the world inside out (pg106)
  • The white folk tell everybody what to think- except men like me. I tell them; that's my life (pg143)
  • In order to obtain social balance one must implement aggression against those who try to impede the process.
  • Power doesn't have to be show off power is confident, self-assuring, self starting and self stopping, self warning and self justifying (pg142)
  • Black people think of their future and fate as a painful struggle. WEB Dubois wanted this to be the case in order for everyone to know that their fight for equality would be like. These people doing manual labor seem to lack individuality which is what Dubois argued- if black people followed Booker T Washington's advice they would;nt actually prosper or have an identity. They must move away from this
  • Dubois did not want his people to sit around and just go along with how white people wanted them to or expects them to behave or think. He wanted them to do what they wanted and set their own goals. Dunois inter them to take social standards and Chang them dramatically rather taking small steps like Washington recommended they did.
  • This reflects Dubois's philosophy that the black Mann should stand on his own without the crutch of the white man. And furthermore reflecting the idea of individuality.
