AKA Seven Years War, was between the French & Indians with the British and colonies over territory. The British felt the need to tax the colonies because they were in huge debt, which led to the colonists resisting the taxes.

The Sugar Act tried to prevent widespread smuggling of molasses in New England. Worried colonial leaders, as the colonies wanted to continue freely govern themselves.

The act required documents to be printed on paper that had been stamped to show the duty had been paid. Many colonists considered the tax a violation of their rights as Englishmen.
The Boston Massacre was when British soldiers opened fire on a group of American colonists killing five men, occurred on March 5, 1770. It generated sympathy for Boston and anger with Britain.

The Intolerable Acts were five laws that were passed by the British Parliament against the American Colonies in 1774. The British closed the Boston Harbor and took away the right of the colony of Massachusetts to govern itself. Leading to more outrage.

The pamphlet helped convince many Americans that a complete break from Britain was necessary. Thomas Paine published Common Sense in January 1776 support of the Patriot cause and challenged the authority of the British government.
