"'Wanna go home,' said Poppy. 'We're almost there,' Lina told her" (P.243) Lina is already calling thi new place 'home' even though they haven't found it yet.
"and soon there was nothing on their minds but the roll and plunge of the boat... and the effort not to be thrown out" (P.242). Before all they were worried about was the darkness, but since now they have moveable light, they can see the dangers ahead of them, plus the river is etting more wild so they are more focused on living.
"Two years ago, when the coughing sickness was raging through the city again, her father had died. Some months later her mother, giving birth to Poppy, died, too" (P.23). This explains why Lina and Poppy live with their grandmother. This memory is important because it shows how Lina has learned to take care for herself and her little sister.
"But as she did all this, in the back of her mind was the memory of the days of her father's illness" (P.134). This is important because it is showing the sadness and pain Lina has gone through and how desperately she doesn't want it to happen again with her grandmother.
"And like an answer, Doon's words came back to her: 'The library. It's almost always open, even on holidays'" (P. 213). This shows hoe even in times of rush and scary things, Doon can help Lina out even if he isn't there. This could've been Lina's only chance of escaping the guards.
