Storyboard Text

  • Ok! Let's get started! Let's talk about how to solve systems of equations and graphing them. When given a problem like 3x+3y=12 and y=2x+1, it can be easy but a process to solve by graphing.
  • Graphs, awesome! What are the steps to solving and graphing?
  • First, cover the x and you're left with 3y=12. Remember, whatever variable you cover up, that is the variable you are trying to find.
  • Alright! Easy enough!
  • To solve the equation, what would you do next?
  • Next, you would divide 3 from both the 3y and the 12. You would get x=4.
  • Great job! Now you would do the other way around to find y. So, cover up the 3y and you're left with 3x=12. Just like before, divide 3 from both side but x would be 0 and y would be 4.
  • That's not too hard. Okay now onto the graphing. How do I do that?
  • When given the equation y=2x+1, the b is where you start ad the x is how you move. If the # is negative then go down, if the # is positive, go up and over.
  • Okay! So basically just up and over or down and to the left depending on the #'s value.
  • Always remember the 3 types of solutions: one solution- which is when you have only one solution, infinitely many- the equations are on the same line when graphing, and no solution- when the graphed equations are parallel on the graph.
  • Okay thank you very much!!:) Now I know how to solve and graph systems.
