  • Thomas Hobbs wanted a strong government and he didn't want the churches to have much power, John Locke believed that all men have equal rights and shouldn't be controlled by the government and should have a limited government they can overthrow. But overall, the ideas of the enlightenment were to grant freedom to the citizens.
  • Thomas Hobbs, and John Locke caused the foundation for the American Government like the constitution. John Locke preached equality for all, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, right to bear arms, and representation. Thomas hobbs preached stronger government.
  • Thomas Hobbs wanted the church to be weaker than the government and the government comes first for the people before the church. John Locke wanted the people to have religion before laws and be able to have natural rights.
