To Kill a Mockingbird (Lee 1960) chapters 16 and 17- Bob Ewell's testimony
The next person to testify is Bob Ewell.
Mr. Ewell testifies that he saw Tom with Mayella, so he yelled at Tom.
Why didn't you get a doctor?
It's too expensive and Mayella didn't need one.
Please write your name.
Tom ran away, so Mr. Ewell went to check that Mayella was OK.
Mayella was OK, so Mr. Ewell ran to get Heck Tate.
Atticus cross-examines Mr. Ewell, or asks him a series of questions.
When Mr. Ewell writes his name, he uses his left hand. Mayella's bruises are on the right side of her face, which means she was probably beaten by someone who is left-handed.
