Causes of the Cold War By Marissa Sanna
The Cold War began in 1947. It wasn't a physical war; it consisted of America and the Soviet Union threatening each other.
The Soviets forced several Eastern European countries into communism. America was worried about the spread of communism into western countries.
The USSR, on the other hand, feared America's use of atomic weapons. The threat was ever-present.
The fear of communism spread to the citizens of the United States, too. People embarked on witch hunts for American communists.
The Cold War lasted over forty years. It only ended when the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991.
