narrator is staring at old man after doing it for 7 nights. this scene is important because this is when the narrator is going to attack the old man. he then makes a noise that wakes the old man and after waiting a long time he finally attacked him. ''With a loud yell, I threw open the lantern and leaped into the room.''
As the narrator leaps to attack him he pulls him to the ground and smothers him with his mattress and kills him. This very important because this is when the narrator starts going crazy and it all changes from here. ''In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him. I then smiled gaily, to find the deed so far done.''
The narrator then chops him up and puts his body parts under the floor board. The neighbor heard screeching and had the police come to investigate whats happening. While he invites them in the room of the crime he sets up chairs on where the body parts are. He then starts going crazy and confesses the crime. This is important because this is the resolution.
