- Sure, do you know what goes into being a captain?
- You cannot be selfish, you have to encourage your teammates, and you have to put yourself last.
- Coach, I think I should be the captain of the team this year.
- You got it coach. I'll do just that.
- Now that I'm captain, I'm going to make sure I bat first every game, start every inning in the field, get first choice of the bubble gum, and I won't have to clean up the field after games. I'll make my teammates pick up the baseballs during batting practice and clean out the dirt from the bottom of my spikes. This is a perfect plan.
- Mark, some of your teammates told me that their having problems with their new captain. It seems like you might not be the right man for the job.
- It's ok, what did you learn?
- Being a captain is not about the title, but about caring about everyone on the roster, so that we win together.
- I'm sorry coach, my teammates are right. As soon as you named me captain, all I wanted was control and to be the boss of this team.
