Storyboard Text

  • Popular Sovereignty Rules (or does it?)
  • I'm Stephen A. Douglas and we should let the good people of Kansas and Nebraska decide if they want slavery or not
  • Slavery - YES or NO?
  • Slavery is GOOD!
  • Slavery is BAD!
  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act was drafted by Democratic Senator Stephen A. Douglas.  The popular sovereignty clause of the act allowed both pro (South) and anti (North) slavery people to enter Kansas-Nebraska with the goal of voting for/against slavery. Due to the outrage from both sides, many violent civil riots broke out; hence the term "Bleeding Kansas".
