The Angel Gabriel tells Zechariah and Elizabeth were going to have a baby. Zechariah questions him and the Angel tells him that he would not be able to talk until he confirmed the child's name was John.
Gabriel appears to Mary, telling her that she will have a baby, and she shall name him Jesus. Mary is shocked but accepts it and goes to tell Elizabeth, and she writes a song about praising the Lord.
John the Baptist is born, and all the neighbors expect his name to be Zechariah after his father. But Elizabeth explains to them that his name needs to be John.
When the neighbors ask Zechariah what the child's name should be, he signals for a tablet and writes "His name is John". He is then able to speak and he praises God, first in words, and then in song.
John then lived in the wilderness when he grew up.
He also appeared to the people of Israel to preach occasionally.
