Thin, bright light rays peeked through thick maroon velvet curtains to reveal a dimly lit room. Light emitted onto a mostly vacant bedroom, excluding the creaky twin sized bed and the light fixture hanging by a wire from the water stained ceiling.
Calvin sat up slowly and groggily, pushed himself up from his bed, and dragged his feet to the floor of his bathroom. He ran lukewarm water over his hands and lowered his head to the sink splashing water onto his face. He wiped off the water droplets from his cheek and felt the rough blisters that decorated his skin- reminding him of the days before the incident.
He returned to his room to dress in his usual an old hat with the letters peeling off. He threw up his hood and walked out of his apartment 23 B as he made his way outside to the bustling streets of Seattle.
Although it was early, it was busy and packed for a Tuesday morning at the local grocery store. Calvin made notice of the scrambling feet across the cream linoleum floor and scuffed his shoes against it as he waited in line for his turn to check out. Calvin lifted his head to see where he was at in line, only to become fascinated and distracted by the young woman in front of him.
She seemed to be having trouble picking up her bags and sweetly asked,“Excuse me? Can anyone help me carry these out?” He observed the poor girl struggle to carry her groceries and open the door before he waved the customers in line behind him to go ahead. He jogged over to the girl and placed his hand on her shoulder, “Would you like me to hold the door open for you?” he asked. A big grin spread across her face as she nodded and replied yes.
“My name is Calvin by the way,” he said as he introduced himself. “My name is Bridget, very nice to meet you Calvin, and thank you for all your help. Would you like to go get some coffee?” She inquired. Calvin was taken aback, he hadn’t been on a “date” in over ten years, before the accident ever happened. Calvin nervously obliged and began to walk and talk with Bridget to the nearest coffee shop.
