  • Mexico Welcomes Large Numbers of Anglo-American immigrants
  • Remember, you all have to learn Spanish. 
  •  I'm not going to learn Spanish
  • 1835 New Dictator of Mexico
  • I declare myself dictator!
  •  Battle of Gonzales
  • Here's a cannon!
  • The immigrants that Mexico let in were not obeying the government. They continued to speak English and create schools. 
  • Battle of the Alamo
  • President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna made himself dictator in 1835. After that, he overthrew the constitution.
  • Battle of San Jacinto 
  • Gonzales received a cannon from the government. On October 2, 1835 Mexican soldiers fired at the Texans.  
  • Texas Statehood
  • I now declare Texas an official U.S. state!
  • The Texans were able to hold the Alamo for 13 days before Mexican forces broke through. The Mexican forces suffered between 600 and 1,600 casualties in the battle. 
  • This battle lasted less than 20 minutes between the Texians and the Mexicans. There were 630 Mexican soldiers killed and 9 Texians killed. 
  • Texas was officially made a state in 1845. his took so long because the government wanted a balance of free and slave states.
