Storyboard Text

  • after a bloodless coup against Sultan bin Salim Al Qasimi, who had allegedly neglected his subjects and alienated them by secretly signing oil concessions with British company PCL
  • In 1869, Ras Al Khaimah became fully independent from neighbouring Sharjah. However, from September 1900 to 7 July 1921, it was re-incorporated into Sharjah; the last governor became its next independent ruler.
  • During my reign, I established security and peace in the emirate and provided a decent life for the people. I established many schools including the emirate's first girls’ school in 1956.
  • At the time of creating the Federation, I had many concerns; one of them was about getting the emirate’s islands of Greater and Lesser Tunbs which Iran had seized.
  • However, I received assurances that the new Federal Government would continue to claim it. Finally, Ras Al Khaimah joined the federation on 10 February 1972.
  • I’m very proud of the passion and the commitment of each citizen of RAK, their love of their country. RAK has played an important part through its people to take up posts in building the nation, through ministers and the different positions they have held.
  • So today we are a part of this great nation, this great success. We see the participation of women, the great leap in literacy rates, the transformation in the economy and the landscape in which we live.
  • Sheikh Saqr died on 27 October 2010. The Crown Prince, Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, is his successor.
