Storyboard Text

  • East Germany
  • Yes, I will rush to the West, life is better there...
  • This is a disaster!
  • Ulbricht is a thief!
  • West Germany
  • Another successful project
  • The Berlin Wall
  • Oh no!! I'm stuck in the East
  • East Berlin citizens were very unhappy with the living standards and economy. Communist ruled, shops were empty and they were not as free as the West zone.
  • Checkpoint Charlie
  • Meanwhile, on West Berlin, people progressed, were happy and loved the new Berlin. This contrast made people leave from the East to the West.
  • Checkpoint Charlie's Conflict
  • Amazing! *claps*
  • To solve this issue, in 1961, East German soldiers established a barbed-wire, which quickly turned into a concrete wall, in the border of the regions. Whoever tried to cross was to be killed by border guards.
  • Kennedy's reaction
  • It's not a very nice solution, but a wall is a hell of a lot better than a war
  • The Checkpoint Charlie was the only crossing point in the Berlin Wall.
  • On October 27, Soviet and US tanks faced each other without attacking. After eighteen hours, little by little, the tanks pulled back.
  • The Wall remained and became a symbol of division between Communist East and Democatic West
